Improved protections for workers who are pregnant

Women in California may have concerns about how pregnancies will affect their careers. Relevant policies, last updated in 1982, have received a new update by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The latest changes are designed to clarify that it is illegal to harass or discriminate against an employee for pregnancy-related issues. This type of harassment is classified as sex discrimination.

Female California executive sued for sexual harassment

Multiple male high-tech executives in California have been making the news recently on account of allegations of misconduct or sexual harassment charges that have been filed against them. The technology industry is heavily male dominated, and the accusations being alleged against males in the business may make it even harder for the profession to attract and retain female employees. One female employee has now filed a lawsuit against a former female employer at Yahoo, claiming that the employee was coerced to have "oral and digital sex" with her supervisor under the threat of termination.

California employees may be interested in the story of one woman who is taking her former employer to court over allegations of sexual harassment. The woman joins others in her industry who have recently alleged similar treatment at the hands of their employers.

New farm bill may benefit female farmworkers

Many California residents understand that farm work is one of the most dangerous jobs available. Exposure to pesticides is one of the primary risks, but for female farmworkers, unwanted sexual advances, verbal abuse, and even rape are all threats when working in the fields. According to one study, 40 percent of female farmworkers reported dealing with some kind of sexual harassment or assault while at work. Many of these assaults and harassments go unreported because workers fear losing their jobs.
