Tyler Perry Studios accused of sexual harassment by former worker

Many people believe that working for the stars would be a dream job. In reality, that may not be the case at all, and employees in California and across the country could be facing hidden pressures that normally are not revealed to the public. A former employee of Tyler Perry Studios alleges that he was the victim of sexual harassment both physically and verbally.

The plaintiff was hired as a production assistant at the studio where the Tyler Perry films are produced. He claims that the environment in which he worked was sexually charged and made males feel uncomfortable. Purportedly, there he endured sexual language, innuendo and unwanted advances.

According to his complaint, the plaintiff's supervisor would refer to him as "baby," call his personal phone and send him text message that were sexual in nature. The plaintiff claims he would also tell him that he missed him and would flirt with him in hopes of getting sexual favors. Not wanting the behavior to continue, the plaintiff reported the situation but allegedly faced retaliation as a result.

The plaintiff filed a complaint against Tyler Perry Studios, his supervisor and Tyler Perry, accusing them of sexual harassment. He is suing for $5 million because of the hostile work environment and because he did not receive the protection he should have been afforded when the situation was reported. He is also accusing Tyler Perry of libel because he allegedly made a comment on social media that stated that the plaintiff was mentally disturbed. Being placed in uncomfortable workplace situations is never acceptable. Workers in California who face sexual harassment can look to the legal system for compensation for the suffering they were forced to endure.
